Christian Vohringer - Pieter Bruegel: Master of Netherlandish art

The painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder known for illustrating over one hundred proverbs is called Netherlandish Proverbs (1559), also known as The Dutch Proverbs or The Blue Cloak. This oil-on-panel masterpiece depicts a bustling village scene where each character's action is a literal representation of a contemporary Dutch-language idiom or aphorism. Bruegel used this complex composition to create a visual catalogue of human folly and the "topsy-turvy world," offering a satirical yet humorous commentary on human nature and sin.
