He tells us about the village cricket team getting into trim for its big match, the village blacksmith and his penchant for making cider, the hobo and journeyman Ben with his donkey, Barty. But mostly it's about Mogford, a cheery farmer, whose wheeler-dealer ways around the markets are the mainstay of this amiable tale.
